You take the prettiest Dutch car to the prettiest Dutch road. Everyone thinks Aston Martins are pretty, as is this new DB11. It’s a different type of design, but it’s recognizable as an Aston Martin. It’s pretty. It’s an important car for Aston Martin, because everything is long-lasting. This is the DB9’s successor, which was improved as the DBS. It dates from 2003. The V8 Vantage is a bit newer; 2005. After this, only varieties of varieties of Aston Martins were introduced. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing, but at some point it’s time for something new.

This is it. We’re driving it on the Epenerbaan. This DB11 has a new aluminum chassis. It’s stiffer and lighter than ever. I’m shifting down a gear. Let’s go. It does want to. I’m entertained. It’s an important car. It’s a new platform. There will be more new Aston Martins. A lot. Small models and V8 models as well. Aston Martin teamed up with Daimler / AMG on a number of things. Not this V12. It’s by Aston Martin itself, but it’ll return in German products. The V8 will be a Mercedes AMG product. We’re a fan of that V8, so that’s not too bad. I want to show a number of things without hooning on the Epenerbaan. Aston Martin has patents on a number of aerodynamic things. The curly cues make sure the air comes out of the wheel arches, preventing high pressure there.

There’ll be no lift. I’ll get back to that side later, because there’s the reason why we’re here. If you’re wondering what this is, air goes in here… It exits here, as a kind of wing. This upper part can slide out. I’m opening the trunk. Our stuff is in there. Look. The air comes out, creating a wing effect. The air comes out under pressure. The faster you’re going, the more air goes through here. Now I can show you the trunk. About two golf sets fit in there, unless you bring a silly cart. Our filming equipment does fit in there as well. We know the clamshell of the Motorola cellphones as well as the DB11’s hood now. You see here… No you don’t, because it’s on the other side.

Air comes out here. Why am I in this spot? To repeat Martijn’s bad joke. The link between the factory there and a DB11: you have your own factory with the twin-turbo V12. The V12 is wonderful. It’s really really really nice. It’s fantastic. It sounds great. Aston Martin put a small sneer in the press release. It said the car has an honest sound and doesn’t need speakers to make it sound like something. This is pure exhaust and intake sound. It sounds fantastic. We were driving to the Epenerbaan. We took it easy on the highway. The engine felt tame and calm, not very inciting.

When we arrived here, we put it in sport plus mode and it keeps pulling. It’s even more powerful and has a linear build-up. The engine doesn’t hit you, but has a nice build-up. That’s well done for a turbo engine. You want to feel more hp every 1,000 rpm. You can see the low winter sun on my face. That’s why we’re doing fine here. There are no hordes of bikers or cyclists on the Epenerbaan. Only us in the Aston Martin DB11. I’d like to switch off ESP and drift here. It can do this. Sometimes you feel it step out a little. However, I’d like to borrow things at CITO in Eindhoven more often, so I won’t. We’re keeping it civilized. By teaming up with Daimler Aston Martin has a better satnav.

You can complain it’s a Mercedes satnav, but it’s good and it works. That’s fine. You don’t buy it for the satnav or pass because of it. If you want to buy it, bring a big wad of cash. I think it’s 280,000-300,000 euros, thereabouts. If this startled you, keep driving your Kia Picanto or Dacia Dokker. It’s a nice car with 2 faces. It can be driven quietly, but you can also hoon it on roads like this. The brakes bite well, the transmission is alert, and the engine with 592 hp and 700 Nm (516 lb ft) is fast enough. It has no understeer either. It’s a nice car. The conclusion: we drove the DB11 to the Epenerbaan, where it comes into its own. You can hoon it really well. Maybe it’s too powerful for this road. You can’t redline it because you’ll be going too fast with 592 hp. However, you can enjoy it. Overtake a tractor. I’d love to do this all day. Made possible by nieuweautokopen.nl
